The Week 14 Exhibition is more than just a showcase of artwork. It’s the grand finale of over three months of dedication, creativity, and personal growth. For our students, it’s a moment to pause, reflect and take pride in how far they’ve come. This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and share their artistic journey with family, friends and the wider community.
Here’s how we prepare for this special milestone and what makes it such a cherished moment.
A Creative Milestone
The lead up to the exhibition is an exciting time. Students are asked to choose their favourite pieces to display – an exercise that encourages reflection and helps them connect with their personal growth.
By Week 13, the energy builds as we guide them through the process of preparing their artwork for display. Selecting mounts and seeing their work properly presented can be transformative. Suddenly, what was once a sketch or experiment becomes something they can be proud to share.
This part of the process often surprises students. Seeing their work framed and ready for display gives them a newfound sense of confidence, and many decide to use it for encouragement to include additional pieces they hadn’t considered before.
Celebrating Together
The exhibition is not just about the art; it’s also about connection. It’s a time for students to celebrate alongside their family and friends while meeting their peers from both the morning and afternoon classes.
These moments are filled with warmth and community. Students who started the course as strangers are now celebrating as friends, sharing stories, and supporting each other’s achievements. The exhibition creates lasting memories and a sense of belonging, making it a highlight of the course.
A Journey Through Art
The way the exhibition is presented is just as important as the art itself. Instead of grouping pieces by individual students, we display the works by module – drawing, pastels, watercolours and acrylics – so visitors can follow the artistic journey step by step.
This thoughtful curation shows the progression and growth of the entire group. Guests can trace the students’ development from the early stages of the course through to their final, more confident creations.
We also include a section for sketchbooks and additional pieces completed outside of class, offering a fuller picture of each student’s artistic practice. Occasionally, students choose to sell their work, which adds a wonderful energy to the event and allows them to experience the joy of sharing their art with others.
A Community Celebration
Our exhibitions are known for their relaxed and welcoming atmosphere – it’s something we pride ourselves on. Guests can enjoy teas, coffees and nibbles as they explore the artwork, chat with the artists, and connect with others.
For many students, this is the first time they’ve seen their work displayed professionally. It’s a unique experience and one that often encourages students to continue sharing their art – whether by gifting pieces to loved ones or displaying them at home.
The event is about more than just celebrating artistic skill, it’s about recognising the hard work that has brought each student to this point.
Looking Ahead
While the exhibition marks the end of the course, it’s also just the launchpad for what comes next. For some, it’s the beginning of a lifelong love and creative journey, whether that means further studies, personal exploration, or even professional opportunities.
Each season’s exhibition is unique, shaped by the personalities that join us and the creativity of the group. We’re always excited to see how each cohort brings its own flair to the event.
In the end, the exhibition is a celebration of creativity, connection and growth. It’s a moment to look back on all that’s been achieved and to look forward to the possibilities ahead.
